## On AI and Fraud

What do we consider fraud?

In one sentence, fraud is deceiving Hack Club into believing you did work you didn't.

Fraud can come in many forms,
- Cloning somebody else's GitHub repo then submitting it as yours
- Following a tutorial or copying somebody else's project (inspiration is fine, copying is not)
- Using AI to directly design your project (more on AI below)
- Submitting a project not originally made for Hack Club (made for school, a job, etc.)
- Using Hack Club funds for a purpose other than what was intended

AI is everywhere now, and it can be a very helpful tool for ideas, troubleshooting, or general advice. However, AI should never be used as a replacement for your designing. This is both to help you actually learn throughout the engineering process, but also because AI isn't as talented as it may make you believe. AI is really good at making *something* but it is never a replacement for human creativity and attention to detail. AI projects will often look finished, but on closer examination there are fundamental design flaws that make them impossible to build.

AI should also never be used for written content or art, such as your README, journal, or graphics. This is just lazy, and makes the experience worse for everyone looking at your project. AI isn't you, why would you let it write something as if you experienced it yourself?

For these reasons, the following uses of AI are completely banned:

- Using AI PCB design software or plugins
- Using AI CAD design software or plugins
- AI generated content in your README.md
- AI generated content in your JOURNAL.md
- AI generated art or graphics
- Fully AI generated firmware

If we see any of these uses of AI in your project, it will be immediately sent back.

However, if you do choose to use AI, you must disclose your use. You can do this by adding an AI disclosure somewhere in your README. For example:

```
AI Disclosure:
During this project, I used AI to help with debugging KiCad DRC errors and to assist in writing firmware.
```

### If we see any AI usage without disclosure, you may face a ban from Fabricate and other Hack Club programs for fraud.
